I’ve often heard
it said that we must use the atonement in our daily lives. I know that I am imperfect enough to need to repent
each day, but I have come to realize that my need for the atonement is deeper. I use the atonement in order to overcome any
temptation, I use it as I feel and act on spiritual promptings to help and
serve others, and even as I pray in Christ’s name I’m using the atonement to
communicate with my Father in Heaven. I
know that life on this earth would be meaningless if not for Christ’s
sacrifice. I have grown to be even more grateful for my Savior and have
recognized how entirely I must rely on him and his atonement for me in order to
return to live with Him again one day.
"Not only does the Atonement of Jesus Christ overcome the effects of the Fall of Adam and make possible the remission of our individual sins and transgressions, but His Atonement also enables us to do good and become better in ways that stretch far beyond our mortal capacities. Most of us know that when we do things wrong and need help to overcome the effects of sin in our lives, the Savior has made it possible for us to become clean through His redeeming power. But do we also understand that the Atonement is for faithful men and women who are obedient, worthy, and conscientious and who are striving to become better and serve more faithfully? I wonder if we fail to fully acknowledge this strengthening aspect of the Atonement in our lives and mistakenly believe we must carry our load all alone - through sheer grit, willpower, and disciple and with our obviously limited capacities."Elder David A Bednar, April 2014 General Conference "Bear Up Their Burdens with Ease", https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/04/bear-up-their-burdens-with-ease?lang=eng&query=Atonement
"We are safe on the rock which is the Savior when we have yielded in faith in Him, have responded to the Holy Spirit's direction to keep the commandments long enough and faithfully enough that the power of the Atonement has changed our hearts. When we have, by that experience, become as a child in our capacity to love and obey, we are on the sure foundation."
President Henry B Eyring, April 2006 General Conference "As A Child" https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2006/04/as-a-child?lang=eng
"His Atonement is infinite - without an end. It was also infinite in that all humankind would be saved from never-ending death. It was infinite in terms of His immense suffering. It was infinite in time...It was infinite in scope - it was to be done once and for all. And the mercy of the Atonement extends not only to an infinite number of people, but also to an infinite number of worlds created by Him. It was infinite beyond any human scale of measurement of mortal comprehension."

"There is no greater expression of love than the heroic Atonement performed by the Son of God."

"Our third article of faith teaches...: "We believe that through the Atonement of Christ all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel."

"The culmination of our Savior's mortal ministry was His Resurrection and His Atonement for the sins of the world. John the Baptist prophesied this when he said, "Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sins of the world." Later Jesus taught that "the Son of man came ... to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many." At the Last Supper, Jesus explained, according to the account in Matthew, that the wine He had blessed was "my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins." Appearing to the Nephites, the risen Lord invited them to come forward to feel the wound in His side and the prints of the nails in His hands and His feet. He did this, He explained, "that ye may know that I am the God of Israel, and the God of the whole earth, and have been slain for the sins of the world." And, the account continues, the multitude fell "down at the feet of Jesus, and did worship him." For this, the whole world will ultimately worship Him. ...And so we understand that the Atonement of Jesus Christ gives us the opportunity to overcome the spiritual death that results from sin and, through making and keeping sacred covenants, to have the blessings of eternal life."

"...The Atonement of Jesus Christ makes possible our becoming more like our Father in Heaven so that we can live together eternally in our family units. There is no doctrine more fundamental to our work that the Atonement of Jesus Christ. At every appropriate opportunity, testify of the Savior and of the power of His Atoning sacrifice."

"Jesus Christ gave His life as a vicarious atonement. He resolved the ultimate question raised by Job. He overcame death for all mankind, which we could not do for ourselves."

"It is one thing to know that Jesus Christ came to the earth to die for us. But we also need to appreciate that the Lord desires, through His Atonement and by the power of the Holy Ghost, to enliven us - not only to guide but also to strengthen and heal us."
