Humility

The Savior, as in all things, is the ultimate example of humility.  During His ministry on Earth Christ’s humility appeared, to some, to be a weakness and proof that He was not who He claimed to be.  However, I know that it was his perfect humility that made possible the submission of His will to the Father so that he could perform the atonement.  I know that in striving to be humble, we must follow the Saviors example and submit our will to Heavenly Father.  In doing so I know we can overcome pride and other sins and temptations of this world.   I know that as we server others we are humbly testifying of the Saviors love for those whose lives we touch.

"Many of us live or work in an environment where humility is often misunderstood and considered a weakness. Not many corporations or institutions include humility as a value statement or a desired characteristic of their management.  Yet as we learn about the workings of God, the power of a humble and submissive spirit becomes apparent.  In the kingdom of God, greatness begins with humility and submissiveness.  These companion virtues are the first critical steps to opening the doors to the blessings of God and the power of the priesthood.  It matters not who we are or how lofty our credentials appear.  Humility and submissiveness to the Lord, coupled with a grateful heart, are our strength and our hope."
Richard C Edgley, October 2003 General Conference "The Empowerment of Humility" https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2003/10/the-empowerment-of-humility?lang=eng&query=Humility

"Humility is the essence of repentance.  Humility is selfless, not selfish.  It doesn't demand its own way or speak with moral superiority.  Instead, humility answers softly and listens kindly for understanding, not vindication. Humility recognizes that no one can change someone else, but with faith, effort, and the help of God, we can undergo our own mighty change of heart."
Elder L Whitney Clayton, April 2013 General Conference "Marriage: Watch and Learn" https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2013/04/marriage-watch-and-learn?lang=eng&query=Humility

"A quality we must cultivate is humility.  Humility is the great protector.  Humility is the antidote against pride.  Humility is the catalyst for all learning, especially spiritual things. Through the prophet Moroni, the Lord gave us this great insight into the role of humility: 'I give unto men weakness that the may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if the humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them."
Elder Dallin H Oaks, October 1994 Ensign "Our Strengths Can Become Our Downfall" https://www.lds.org/ensign/1994/10/our-strengths-can-become-our-downfall?lang=eng

"A ll progress in spiritual things is conditioned upon the prior attainment of humility." Humitiy has been described as have the "desire to submit to the Lord," the "desire to seek the Lord's will and glory," and the "desire to remove pride." ...The Lord counseled in the Doctrine and Covenants that "inasmuch as they were humble they might  be made strong, and blessed from on high, and receive knowledge from time to time." May we each develop our humility by submitting  to the will of the Lord in all things so that we may retain a remission of our sins."
Elder Keith Crockett, October 2000 General Conference "Retaining a Remission of Sin" https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2000/10/retaining-a-remission-of-sin?lang=eng&query=Humility

"Some suppose that humility is about beating ourselves up.  Humility does not mean convincing ourselves that we are worthless, meaningless, or of little value.  Nor does it mean denying or withholding the talents God has given us.  We don't discover humility by thinking less of ourselves; we discover humility by thinking less about ourselves.  It comes as we go about our work with an attitude of serving God and our fellowman."
President Dieter F Uchtdorf, October 2010 General Priesthood Meeting "Pride and the Priesthood" https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2010/10/pride-and-the-priesthood?lang=eng&query=Humility

"The Apostle Peter warned that "God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble."
President Dieter F Uchtdorf, October 2010 General Priesthood Meeting "Pride and the Priesthood" https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2010/10/pride-and-the-priesthood

"And inasmuch as they were humble they might be made strong, and blessed from on high, and receive knowledge from time to time."
President Henry B Eyring, April 1995 General Conference "Always Remember Him" https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1995/04/always-remember-him

"...If we are humble and teachable, hearkening to the commandments of God, the counsel of his leaders, and the promptings of his Spirit, we can be guided in how to use our spiritual gifts, our accomplishments, and all of our other strengths for righteousness.  And we can be guided in how to avoid Satan's efforts to use our strengths to cause our downfall.  In all of this we should remember and rely on the Lord's direction and promise: 'Be thou humble; and the Lord thy God shall lead thee by the hand, and give thee answer to thy prayers."
Elder Dallin H Oaks, October 1994 Ensign "Our Strengths Can Become Our Downfall" https://www.lds.org/ensign/1994/10/our-strengths-can-become-our-downfall?lang=eng

"Humility is the precious, fertile soil of righteous character."
Elder Richard G Scott, October 1981 General Conference "The Plan for Happiness and Exaltation" https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1981/10/the-plan-for-happiness-and-exaltation?lang=eng&query=humility+is+precious+fertile+soil

"God will have a humble people.  Either we can choose to be humble or we can be compelled to be humble.  Alma said, "Blessed are they who humble themselves without being compelled to be humble." Let us choose to be humble.  We can choose to humble ourselves by conquering enmity toward our brothers and sisters, esteeming them as ourselves, and lifting them as high or higher than we are.  We can choose to humble ourselves by receiving counsel and chastisement.  We can choose to humble ourselves by forgiving those who have offended us.  We can choose to humble ourselves by rendering selfless service.  We can choose to humble ourselves by going on missions and preaching the word that can humble others.  We can choose to humble ourselves by getting to the temple more frequently.  We can choose to humble ourselves by confessing and forsaking our sins and being born of God.  We can choose to humble ourselves by loving God, submitting our will to His, and putting Him first in our lives."
President Ezra Taft Benson, April 1989 General Conference "Beware of Pride" https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1989/04/beware-of-pride
